Apichatpong Weerasethakul's films like Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives and Cemetery of Splendour approach death and the metaphysical in ways that felt similar to the story I wanted to tell. Those films had a profound impact on me, and I spent a great deal of time thinking about them leading up to the making of A Ghost Story.
