Cinematic DNA
I watched 'Days of Being Wild' a lot when I was putting 'Moonlight' together, and 'If Beale Street Could Talk.' There’s a particular shot where Tony Leung is just sitting in the room alone and smoking a cigarette and he’s wearing a tank top, and the way the light is coming across his body, and the texture of his skin and the smoke, it’s just the most beautiful thing.

I feel like he's one of the first filmmakers that made me realize that filmmaking is an art. He was such a visceral filmmaker, the way he would use color and light and music to create a mood and a feeling.
