I started delving into the Shaw Brothers catalogue, especially the Venom films... Five Deadly Venoms, Kid with the Golden Arm, Invincible Shaolin, Crippled Avengers... All those films had that raw energy. I just wanted to contribute to that canon with a raw movie that had heart and soul and character.
