The Killer

1989

The influence of John Woo's The Killer is there, in the way they're shot, the camera's often quite high and swooping.

It's certainly an antihero, but there's a nobility to him that I think in a weird way makes him similar to Alain Delon's character in Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samouraï.

I was influenced by the French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Melville. He has a very special romantic style, an existential style. I learned a lot from him, from his films Le Samouraï and Le Cercle Rouge.
