Cinematic DNA
And then in the UK, obviously Ken Loach and Mike Leigh, but also Terence Davies, who is more of a poet. I remember seeing Distant Voices, Still Lives and also his trilogy of shorts [Children, Madonna and Child, Death and Transfiguration] when I was very young, and being deeply moved by them. I was very touched by his subjectivity, the way he uses memory. It’s a very intimate kind of cinema, a very spiritual kind of cinema that can touch you very deeply.
